Agribusiness Market and Support Activity (AMARTA)
AMARTA is a USAID-Indonesia funded project that assists the Government of Indonesia in promoting a robust Indonesian agribusiness system that will significantly contribute to gainful employment, growth, and prosperity. The 4,5 year, $ 19.6 million AMARTA project works with private businesses, farmers and other actors to improve efficiency, productivity, and product quality in value chains such as high-value export commodities, hypermarket quality horticulture products, cocoa, and coffee.What does AMARTA do?
AMARTA focuses on improving agricultural productivity and quality to improve market access. We provide technical assistance from Indonesian and international agribusiness experts to identify, assess, and resolve critical obstacles constraining agribusiness competitiveness in value chains such as cocoa, coffee, high value horticulture. The AMARTA value chain interventions are demonstrated throughout Indonesia using an ambitious outreach, awareness, and education program that incorporates government agencies, alliances of agribusiness enterprises, agribusiness associations and business service providers. This program will include national and regional conferences, training, and media campaigns.The AMARTA’s projects include a number of cross-cutting issues that affect all value chains in Indonesia, including:
- Assisting agribusiness service providers to deliver better assistance to farmers and small enterprise to improve productivity and quality;
- Building links to regional markets through cooperation among national and international trade organizations and agribusiness firms;
- Enabling productive and stable jobs for women in their communities;
- Improving access to formal financial services for micro, small, and medium enterprises.
Where does AMARTA work?
AMARTA’s regional network is comprised of agribusiness competitiveness offices in Medan, Kabanjahe, Makassar, and Denpasar, Bandung and Papua under the coordination of the central office in Jakarta. AMARTA has identified pilot projects with cooperating agribusiness firms and/or farmer groups to conduct cocoa farmer training in Sulawesi and Bali; improve coffee production in North Sumatera and Papua; and horticulture in West Java, North Sumatra, and PapuaJakarta
